SARNIA R.O.C.K.s On!
The R.O.C.K. was founded in 2004 after Samantha Thomas lost her nine month battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Lymphoma, three days before her third birthday. R.O.C.K. Founders, Bob & Lori, knew that they had to do something to put some meaning to this terrible tragedy, to find a greater purpose to their loss. Sammy’s memory lives on through the R.O.C.K.
The R.O.C.K. has grown each year, from the first cheque hand-off in 2004 to the Childhood Cancer Foundation Canada for $13,204 to $32,100 in 2007. Combined with the year-long 2007 coin-box donations by McDonald’s Restaurants of Sarnia to the R.O.C.K. we will have turned over $100,000 to the Foundation before the first mile is ridden in 2008. New treatments and diagnostic tools are improving the survival rates each year, but we still have so far to go. Together, we can help, we can make a difference, we can save lives.
Children should be running in parks, playing with friends and family, not connected to an IV pole in a hospital room or locked into an isolation room in a transplant ward. A child’s biggest worry should be a Geography test not their next lumbar puncture or radiation treatment. No parent should have to watch their child suffer months of chemotherapy and still lose them.
Cancer kills more children each year in Canada than all other diseases combined. Mortality rates are declining but the number of new cases is increasing. Our children need our help, so let’s raise some funds, ride some roads, and get the researchers the dollars they need.
Are these the faces you think of when you picture a cancer patient?

100% of proceeds from the R.O.C.K. go to the Childhood Cancer Reasearch Fund!
