R.O.C.K. Ride - 2006 Results

The third annual Ride for Our Cancer Kids was a huge success!!!

Perfect weather prevailed over the 114 motorcyclists on 85 bikes on their 170 km trek through scenic Lambton and Kent counties. A halfway point BBQ at Mitchell's Bay, put on by the Dover optimists (special thanks to Ric Devolder and his crew - you ROCK) was a welcome break for the riders. Although the humidity was not as bad as anticipated, many riders still had an ice-cream layover in the little village of Sombra on their way along the St. Clair River.

After some last- minute donations and an unexpected top-up donation from the organizers of the Kause for Kids ride in Grand Bend, the final total from the R.O.C.K. 2006 was an impressive $25 260.00 . This money is earmarked for the Foundation's "Childhood Cancer Research Fund" which funds research at 17 hospitals across Canada, including the Childrens Hospital in London and Toronto Sick Kids Hospital.

Riders from Kitchener, Cambridge, London, Windsor, Leamington, Sarnia, Corunna and surrounding areas, with 1 rider from Perth making the 6 hour journey, and 1 rider all the way from Alberta. The top fundraiser, Mr. Walter Fraser of Sarnia raised $1 435 in pledges. The Grand Prize - a Samsung 46 inch HD TV went to John Friesen from Leamington, with his winning raffle ticket. The new tv will be appreciated by John and his entire family, including their own cancer survivor - 13-year-old daughter Alexandria. John was also the 2nd highest fundraiser with $1 364.00.

A special guest, 2 year old cancer survivor Julia Krause was on hand, to assist with some of the raffles. The Club Cup went to the Ontario Star Riders - Sarnia chapter who raised $1 628.00.
