R.O.C.K. Ride - 2006 Results

The fourth annual Ride for Our Cancer Kids was a huge success!!!

Once again, the weather was ideal for the R.O.C.K. 2007 and at the pre-ride BBQ held at K106 the day before.

56 bikes travelled uninterrupted parade-style down River Road, an impressive picture for the boaters and picnicers enjoying the St. Clair River.

A strong breeze kept us cool at the halfway BBQ at Duke's in Chatham, where the food was good and plentiful, provided again by the Dover Optimists and Bedell's Foodservices. A surprise cheque for $500 donated by the Optimists was a welcome addition to our funds for the day. The Ontario Sport Riders and the Ontario West Coast Riders also came through with unexpected cheques for $1000.00 each. We returned in smaller groups to the Lazy Duck Bar & Grill for more finger foods and entertainment by Blind Dog Molly. The expansive deck at the front of the bar was ideal.

Our top Fundraiser was Walt Fraser, once again, more than doubling his 2006 amount; bringing in $3821. This also secured the Club Cup again for the Ontario Star Riders. Way to go, Walt!!! 2nd place went to John Friesen with an impressive $2000.00 and 3rd to Mike Krause with 1500.00. Mike also won our Grand Prize - the LCD TV and Stereo system.

A special thank-you goes out to McDonalds Restaurants of Sarnia for donating their coinbox funds from the 4 Sarnia locations for 2007. The first four months alone brought in a whopping $4200.00. That change really adds up.

At the end of the day, a cheque was handed over to the CEO of the Childhood Cancer Foundation, Mr. David Stone, for $32,100.00. This money is earmarked for the Research Fund, which will go to approved research programs at the 17 childrens hospitals across Canada.
