R.O.C.K. Ride - 2008 Results

Ideal weather prevailed over the the 5th annual R.O.C.K. (Ride for Our Cancer Kids) as we rumbled through Lambton and Kent counties.

104 bikes registered that morning and by the time we reached Mitchell's Bay, nearly all were cruising in one long parade. The Dover Optimists once again provided a seemless bbq at the park by the water. The return trip to Sarnia ventured through South Chatham but even those traffic lights were very cooperative and groups were barely slowed.

The Club Cup went to Bluewater H.O.G. this year, raising $790.00 Bob Harrison of Mooretown won the Toronto Getaway weekend for 4 grand prize. Walt Fraser of Sarnia won top fundraiser with an impressive $4175.00. Mike Krause was second highest with $2092, and Ron Bain third with 1280.00.

Although attendance at the "R.O.C.K.in' the Duck" concert was lower than hoped for, the bands ROCKed the house. Adam miner, Jed, Stubby Phillips band and Chalk Line put on excellent shows.

The total announced at the end of the ride was $28720.00, but the concert, silent auction and some next day donations brought that figure up to $ 30720.00.

Although unable to send a representative to acceot the cheque this year, the Childhood Cancer Foundation Canada had sent down a 5 year appreciation award which was presented to organizers Bob and Lori Thomas by cancer survivor Julia, and her parents Mike and Charlene Krause.

Information on the R.O.C.K. 2009 will be announced in the fall.
